Objectives
The objectives of the course on Post Graduate Certificate in Digital Library focus on providing in-depth knowledge on various aspects of digital library such as, characteristics, components, standards and protocols, IPR & Copyrights digital rights management, planning, digitization etc. The intended course will impart digital skills among the students to examine the digital library software and install them in the library to make it digital library and making more functional in providing digital library services by the learners. The course will create competent human resources to promote access to the traditional and socially useful knowledge through digitization and develop capacity building among the learners in organization and preservation of knowledge for use.
Course Coverage
The course will be imparted to the learners on use of technology in the library and its application in a scientific way in the library to optimise the benefit of library resources. The learners also will be able to know its practical implication in library management, digitisation digital preservation and digital library services. The course will also include various examples of open access with special emphasis on UK, USA, India, digital repositories, and various aspects of digital rights and access management and its application in digital libraries. Again, the course will also include case studies on setting-up digital library using open source institutional repository software, i.e. D-Space
Target Learners
The Course is designed for the students who have passed +3 in any stream, students of library and information science as well as for professionals working in library and information centres. Other learners interested in digital libraries may also take up the course.
Pre-requisite
The learner should have preliminary knowledge of computers, acquaintance with traditional libraries using manual processes as well as computarised library operations and services offered by both types of libraries.
Duration
The course is of 6 months duration. It consists of 16 credits out of which 8 credits will be Theory and 8 credits will be practical.
